Karnath's Lair (Level 6): Except for the final jump to end the level, this is mostly forced-scrolling (In a sense) due to the snakes. Missing the 1-up wasn't intentional, but I had built up enough lives to not worry about it. The damage I take in the first surfing section is intentional, as it makes the Space Invaders go away quicker. Surf City (Level 5): This is my second-least favorite level in a speedrun, as sometimes the game will throw you a formation of mines that literally can't be dodged in that section. I also meet my first untimely death here, snuggling a little too close to a spike in an effort to shave some time off. I make several speed-for-risk decisions, most of them dealing with the ice blocks. You can actually "run" on the bikes by double-tapping like you would when on foot, but there's no real practical application for it that I've found.Īrctic Caverns (Level 4): Not a lot to say here either. As a result, I try to make the Turbo Tunnel proper more exciting where I could. Turbo Tunnel (Level 3): Forced-scrolling goodness.
Wookie Hole (Level 2): The key here is balancing speed (The level stops at certain fixed points and doesn't advance until you destroy the enemies there) with showing off my ability to hit birds off the wall for 1-ups. I like pseudo-dying at the end of levels. Ragnarok's Canyon (Level 1): Not much to say here really. Going through them quickly is that much harder, but if I were grading myself here, I'd give myself a nice B+/A- on this one. Going through all twelve levels of the game is, as many gamers will tell you, no easy feat. This was actually done before the Battletoads Warp run that appeared at the same time as this one. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60fps high quality. Speed run of Battletoads without using warps done on about June 20 2005.
